Subang Airport runway reopens after temporary closure following helicopter fire

SUBANG: The runway at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport here, which was temporarily closed following a helicopter fire earlier today, has reopened.

Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) chief executive officer Captain Datuk Norazman Mahmud said the runway was reopened following the incident at Taxiway Victor.

"The runway was opened for air traffic at the airport at 2.57pm. Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates on their flights," he said when contacted.

He said eight inbound flights were diverted while another three flights had to delay their departure during the temporary closure.

Meanwhile, checks by the New Straits Times at the airport terminal's flight information board showed that most flights had been retimed.

CAAM earlier said the airport's runway had been closed, with all flights put on hold until further notice.

The closure followed an incident involving a Kamov Ka-32S helicopter, which caught fire at 12.28pm while undergoing an engine ground run as part of maintenance activities.

Four Ukrainian men, including a pilot, co-pilot and two crew members, were involved in the incident, with one sustaining minor injuries after being struck by debris.
