MH89 take-off aborted at Narita over engine issue
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airlines flight MH89 from Tokyo Narita International Aiport to Kuala Lumpur aborted take-off today following a technical issue involving one of its engines.
Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), in a statement, said all passengers and crew were safe.
"The flight was subsequently cancelled and the aircraft is undergoing a thorough technical inspection.
"All affected passengers are being assisted with their onward travel arrangements and will be accommodated on the next available flights.
"Meals, lounge access and hotel accommodation are being provided where applicable, while alternative travel arrangements are being made for affected passengers," it said.
MAG apologised for the inconvenience and disruption caused and thanked passengers for their patience and understanding.
Earlier today, Japanese public broadcaster Nippon Hoso Kyokai (NHK) reported that black smoke was seen coming from the aircraft as it moved onto the runway at around 10.40am local time, prompting the closure of Runway A for inspection.
