MAB Engineering doubles up MRO capacity with new Hangar 4 in Subang
KUALA LUMPUR: MAB Engineering Services has doubled its aircraft maintenance capacity at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport in Subang.
This follows the commissioning of its new Hangar 4 airframe maintenance facility, strengthening MAB Engineering's position as a regional maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) provider.
This comes after a 15-year lease agreement with Impeccable Vintage Properties Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned-subsidiary of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.
According to Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the move is more than a relocation from Hangar 1 and forms part of its Long-Term Business Plan 3.0 (LTBP 3.0), which aims to build a more future-ready and efficient maintenance ecosystem.
The expanded capability strengthens MAB Engineering's ability to support both Malaysia Airlines' and Firefly's fleet requirements, as well as third-party MRO customers, with capacity evenly split between internal maintenance needs and external commercial opportunities.
It said about 50 per cent of the facility is allocated to existing and projected maintenance requirements for Malaysia Airlines and Firefly.
The remaining 50 per cent is dedicated to third-party customers, reinforcing its ambition to capture greater opportunities in the regional MRO market.
MAG said Hangar 4 overcomes Hangar 1's limitation of two maintenance lines by enabling four simultaneous lines, comprising one widebody A330 line, one Boeing 737 narrowbody line and two ATR72 propeller lines.
The upgraded facility is also expected to improve operational efficiency through better workflow planning, greater flexibility across mixed fleets and higher resource utilisation.
MAG president and group chief executive officer Captain Nasaruddin A. Bakar said the commissioning of Hangar 4 marks a key milestone in strengthening the group's engineering capabilities.
He said the expansion doubles maintenance capacity at Subang and enhances the group's ability to serve both MAG airlines and international customers.
"As demand for high-quality MRO services continues to grow across the region, Hangar 4 positions us to compete more strongly, support Malaysia's ambition as a regional aviation hub, and deliver greater long-term value to the group and its customers," he said.
