KLIA is world's fourth most connected international megahub

KUALA LUMPUR: Kuala Lumpur International Airport has retained its position as the world's fourth most connected international megahub and ranked first in OAG's 2026 Low-Cost Megahubs Index.

The latest OAG Megahubs report also placed KLIA at the top among Asia Pacific megahubs, with airlines offering connections to 154 destinations and nearly 15,000 possible low-cost flight combinations.

AirAsia accounted for 34 per cent of flights at KLIA, making it the airport's dominant carrier, according to the report.

AirAsia said its Its extensive network links Kuala Lumpur with destinations across Asean, Asia and Australia, contributing significantly to the airport's connectivity.

Bo Lingam, group chief executive officer of AirAsia Group, said KLIA's ranking reflected the network built by the airline and its cooperation with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB).

"Kuala Lumpur's continued achievement as one of the world's most connected aviation hubs reflects the strength of the network that AirAsia has built from Malaysia over the years," he said in a statement.

Lingam said the airline remained focused on maintaining regional connectivity despite industry-wide challenges affecting airlines.

He said the network would support tourism in Malaysia and Asean, particularly ahead of Visit Malaysia Year 2026, while also facilitating trade, business and regional mobility.

AirAsia said it will continue developing links between Asean and key international markets, with the network evolving around demand for lower-cost regional travel.
