ICCAIA AT THE ICAO AVIATION CLIMATE WEEK 2025

The ICAO Aviation Climate Week 2025 took place from 2 to 4 June in Montréal, gath ering global leaders and stakeholders in aviation to address the pressing challenges of climate change and sustainable air transport. ICCAIA was proudly represented by its Chair, Jan Pie (ASD), who participated in the opening “Setting the Scene” panel: How is the Industry Preparing for Net-Zero? He joined fellow leaders from IATA, CANSO, ACI, and IFALPA for a dynamic and forward-looking discussion.

This opening session underscored the aviation industry’s full commitment to ICAO’s Long-Term Global Aspirational Goal (LTAG). Speakers emphasized the critical importance of broad collaboration across the entire air transport ecosystem – including adjacent sec tors – to achieve net-zero emissions, as well as the urgency of swift and coordinated action.

Jan Pie reaffirmed ICCAIA’s strong commitment to sustainable aviation, including the goal of ensuring that civil aviation products are compatible with and capable of operating on 100% ASTM-qualified Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF) by 2030. He also highlighted the sector’s continued investment of approximately $15 billion annually in the research and development of next-generation technologies aligned with ICAO’s long-term environmental objectives.

Throughout the event, ICCAIA experts contributed to several critical sessions, sharing technical knowledge and strategic perspectives. Topics included:

Aircraft Technologies to Mitigate Aviation Emissions, Operations to Mitigate Aviation CO₂ and Non-CO₂ Emissions, Accelerating the Aviation Cleaner Energy Transition

These discussions provided an opportunity for ICCAIA and its members to engage constructively on solutions for a more sustainable future, and to reinforce the importance of innovation, collaboration, and policy support in achieving industry-wide goals.

As the ICAO Aviation Climate Week 2025 concluded, ICCAIA reaffirmed its commitment to working alongside ICAO, Member States, and the broader aviation community to make LTAG a reality. Meeting this ambitious target will require unprecedented collaboration and sustained efforts from all stakeholders.

ICCAIA is thankful to all who contributed to the event’s success. The organization remains dedicated to supporting global efforts to ward a cleaner, more sustainable future for aviation.
