CTRM Testing Laboratory partners Skyways Technics Asia to strengthen regional MRO services

CTRM Testing Laboratory Sdn Bhd (CTRMTL), a subsidiary of Composites Technology Research Malaysia (CTRM) Sdn Bhd, has signed a long-term Service Level Agreement with Skyways Technics Asia Sdn Bhd to boost aircraft maintenance and repair capabilities in the Asia Pacific region.

The partnership is for the repair of radomes, which are aircraft nose cones that protect radar and communication systems.

Under the agreement, Skyways Technics Asia, which is part of the global MRO service provider Skyways Technics, will utilise CTRM’s autoclave facilities and composite repair expertise to enable these repairs to be carried out locally.

This partnership allows faster turnaround times, improved cost efficiencies, and reduced reliance on overseas services. It also supports Malaysia’s goal to become more self-sufficient in aerospace MRO and strengthens the Asia-Pacific aerospace supply chain.

Skyways Technics CEO Benjamin Nielsen said working with CTRM gives it access to advanced facilities and skilled technicians.

“We can now offer quicker and more cost-effective radome repairs to our customers across Asia,” he said in a statement.

Radomes are made of nearly 30 layers of laminated prepreg material in a honeycomb structure. These require specialised equipment and expertise to maintain, and regular inspections are essential to meet aviation safety standards.

Meanwhile, CTRM CEO Shamsuddin Mohamed Yusof noted that partnership with a global player in the MRO sector is a clear recognition of CTRM’s technical capabilities and facilities.

“This collaboration also positions CTRM well in view of the rapid development of MRO capabilities in the region,” he said.

National Aerospace Industry Corporation Malaysia CEO Shamsul Kamar Abu Samah welcomed the partnership.

“This collaboration is a milestone for Malaysia’s aerospace industry. It shows how global and local players can work together to build a stronger, more competitive MRO ecosystem,” he said.

CTRM, a subsidiary of DRB-HICOM Berhad, is Malaysia’s leading aerospace composites manufacturer and a key supplier to global aircraft programmes. Skyways Technics, based in Denmark, operates hubs in Malaysia and other countries, offering aircraft maintenance, repair, and spare parts solutions. — TMR
