Capital A's long-serving executive Aireen Omar resigns after two decades

KUALA LUMPUR (Dec 12): Capital A Bhd (KL:CAPITALA) announced on Friday that its long-serving senior executive Aireen Omar will be leaving the group effective Friday, after two-decades with the AirAsia parent company.

Aireen, 52, most recently served as group chief executive officer (CEO) of BigPay as well as CEO of AirAsia Rewards, according to Capital A. BigPay is Capital A’s digital financial services arm offering e-wallet, payments and fintech solutions, while AirAsia Rewards (formerly BigLife) is the group’s lifestyle and loyalty rewards platform.

“Aireen has been a pivotal leader in the group’s evolution into a digital-first organisation, spearheading technology and transformation initiatives across the group,” Capital A CEO Tan Sri Tony Fernandes said in a statement.

“I thank her for the immense passion and hard work she has poured into the company over the past two decades and wish her all the best in her next chapter,” Fernandes said.

Several months earlier, Aireen also stepped down from her role as independent non-executive director at Senheng New Retail Bhd (KL:SENHENG), citing personal commitments.

She continues to serve as a non-independent non-executive director at Tune Protect Group Bhd (KL:TUNEPRO), a position she has held since 2019.

Aireen first began her career at Deutsche Bank Securities Inc in New York before returning to Malaysia, where she served in several major financial institutions. She joined AirAsia in 2006 as director of corporate finance, overseeing treasury, fuel procurement, insurance and investor relations.

In 2012, she was appointed executive director and CEO of AirAsia Bhd, becoming one of the first female airline CEOs in Asia. She later assumed the role of deputy group CEO before taking on senior leadership responsibilities in the group’s digital ventures.

In 2023, Aireen became president of the investment and ventures division at Capital A, where she led venture building, fundraising initiatives and strategic investments across the group’s ecosystem.

Shares in Capital A rose 1.5 sen or 3.85% to 40 sen at midday on Friday, valuing the company at RM1.75 billion. Year to date, the counter has gained 35%
