Boeing expands composites manufacturing capacity in Kedah

KUALA LUMPUR: Boeing has expanded its Boeing Composites Malaysia (BCM) facility in Kedah as the US aircraft manufacturer increases production capacity to support higher commercial aircraft output.

The expansion adds 100,000 sqft of warehouse space for finished components and integrated logistics at the facility.

Boeing said the additional capacity supports its increase in commercial aircraft production to meet global demand and customer commitments.

BCM managing director Faisal Sraieldin said Boeing's continued investment in Kedah reflected the strength of Malaysia's industrial base and its local workforce.

"Boeing's continued investment in Kedah reflects the strength of Malaysia's industrial base and the exceptional all-Malaysian talent on our team.

"With this expansion, we are reinforcing our commitment to developing high-tech talent and deepening our long-term partnership with Malaysia, while strengthening the country's position as an aerospace manufacturing hub," he said in a statement.

BCM employs about 1,150 Malaysians and manufactures composite products and subassemblies for Boeing commercial aircraft.

BCM is Boeing's first wholly-owned subsidiary in Southeast Asia.

The facility was originally established as a joint venture between Boeing and Hexcel Corp before Boeing acquired the former Aerospace Composites Malaysia Sdn Bhd from Hexcel in December 2023.

The plant specialises in producing composite components including aileron skins, flat panels and trailing edges for Boeing commercial aircraft models such as the 737, 777 and 787 Dreamliner.

Boeing said workforce development remains part of its strategy in Malaysia through partnerships with local technical institutions, including Institut Kemahiran Belia Negara and the Advanced Technology Training Centre.

The partnerships aim to develop high-precision skills required for advanced aerospace manufacturing and improve workforce readiness in Kedah.
