Ascend Airways Malaysia ready for take-off as new player enters South-east Asia’s skies
KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 31 — Ascend Airways Malaysia has cleared the final regulatory hurdle to take off next month after securing its full Air Operator Certificate (AOC) and Air Service Permit (ASP).
The Kuala Lumpur-based airline, part of Avia Solutions Group — the world’s largest ACMI (Aircraft, Crew, Maintenance and Insurance) provider — will begin cargo and charter operations in Malaysia and across South-east Asia, with passenger services slated for early 2026.
Ascend Airways Malaysia received its Conditional Air Service Permit in 2024 before completing the certification process this year. The carrier’s first aircraft, a Boeing 737-800SF, will support initial operations, with fleet expansion planned through 2026.
In a statement yesterday, Ascend Airways Malaysia chief executive officer Germal Singh Khera said Malaysia’s strategic location as a regional aviation hub positions it well for growth, adding that support from regulators has been key to the airline’s launch.
CAAM chief executive officer Dato’ Captain Norazman Bin Mahmud said the airline had met all regulatory standards.
“The issuance of Ascend Airways Malaysia’s AOC and ASP reflects the airline’s fulfilment of a thorough and stringent evaluation process. We commend the airline for its diligence throughout the certification process and look forward to its continued compliance,” he said.
Avia Solutions Group operates 187 aircraft under 11 AOCs worldwide, providing ACMI and charter services across Europe, Asia and the Americas.
