Global aerospace business Embraer is teaming up with Toyota to enhance its production operations. The partnership will embrace Toyota Production Systems principles and build on Embraer’s enterprise efficiency program, which has already delivered significant productivity gains to the Brazil-based airplane maker.

Bringing fresh eyes to Embraer’s production operations

This project will be between Embraer and Toyota do Brazil and will focus on generating greater operating efficiency and waste reduction. The initial phase will see Toyota Production System (TPS) specialists immersed in Embraer’s daily operations at the main plant in Brazil, located in São José dos Campos, São Paulo. The TPS team will work alongside Embraer staff to evaluate the existing processes and operations to devise improvements to the business, including in the production of the E-Jet and E-Jet E2 family.

Embraer CEO Francisco Gomes Neto said that bringing Toyota into Embraer for this work reinforces the company’s commitment to focus on business excellence and sustainable growth.

“It will be an excellent opportunity to exchange knowledge and accelerate the usage of Lean philosophy in the production systems, while strengthening practices already conducted by the Embraer Enterprise Excellence program, the P3E.”

President of Toyoda do Brasil, Rafael Chang, said that the TPS methodology can contribute to different scenarios and is one of Toyota’s pillars worldwide. “More than efficiency and productivity, the TPS can provide solutions that allow industry and other sectors to continuously improve their processes.”
