KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) is cautiously optimistic about air travel recovery with domestic travel will likely return to the pre-pandemic level by the end of 2022.

Group chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said the potential recovery would be followed by full-resumption of long-haul international travel globally by mid-2023 or early-2024.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has impacted the aviation industry tremendously. But we see certain parts of domestic markets in North America, China and Russia began to recover gradually, operating close to their pre-covid levels (2019),” he said at the Virtual Airline 101 organised by Malaysia Airlines Bhd and the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) today.

However, Izham said the recovery in Southeast Asia was falling behind other areas. Read more
